Elecampane is a joyful plant for the garden, a perennial plant from the daisy family.
It has large leaves, yellow flowers, reminiscent of a sunflower plant. It will grow in a wide range of climates and temperatures, but it grows best in mild summers and cold winters.
Elecampane needs some room to grow but will beautifully full an area in the garden like a vacant corner or that spot in the garden that just needs something.
The roots and rhizomes spread out in an octopus shape, so to harvest dig a broad area to retain as much of the root as possible, after harvesting the available root the crowns can be replanted for the next season. Roots need to be washed and chopped before drying.
It is a plant with a lot of history and medicinally found to be useful for all lungs conditions.
Elecampane is high in Inulin, an excellent prebiotic for the gut microbiome.
