Prunella vulgaris (Self-heal plant) – with a name like this it has to be good for you!!
Self healing allows us to address any underlying issues that may be affecting us: emotionally, mentally and physically. When we prioritise our own healing, we can let go of negative patterns and behaviours, develop a more positive mindset, and cultivate healthier relationships with ourselves and others.
At Phytofarm Prunella vulgaris plants are flourishing in the semi-shade of the forest. The plants that receive dappled sunlight produce more flowers. The soil on the forest floor is mixed, depending on which trees are above the plants. There is good moisture and a reasonable amount of leaf litter available.
Prunella vulgaris can be propagated by stolon root division, or seed. Propagation with roots yields larger plants in a shorter amount of time and can be done at any time plants are found. Prunella vulgaris is a perennial herbaceous plant that blooms from late spring to late summer.
Traditional uses of Prunella vulgaris include: use as an expectorant, to assist female reproductive disorders, as a skin treatment and astringent, an antiseptic and for enlarged lymphatic glands.
Prunella vulgaris contains constituents that act as antioxidants: rosmarinic acid, rutin, and flavonoids. It may be useful as an anti-cancer treatment and the spread of disease to the liver. Tannins may help reduce skin inflammation and have an impact on general swellings, and herpes simplex virus (HSV); that causes the formation of contagious cold sores around your mouth.
A lot more clinical investigation is required on this wild pasture flower.
